BLACK RURAL FUTURISM™
Black rural life is not a relic. It is intelligence.BLACK RURAL FUTURISM™ is a cultural framework, artistic practice, and growing body of work that treats Black rural life as a source of knowledge, beauty, technology, memory, and future vision.
Rooted in the rural South and reaching toward futures not yet built, it asks:
What becomes possible when the people, places, practices, and imaginations of Black rural communities are understood not as remnants of the past, but as architects of what comes next?
60,000 VIEWS. ONE QUESTION.
What happens when Black rural life is treated as intelligence rather than relic?
On June 2, 2026, I shared my first public introduction to BLACK RURAL FUTURISM™. The reel reached more than 60,000 views on Instagram and opened a wider conversation about the rural South as a site of memory, invention, technological imagination, beauty, and future-making.
The response was more than excitement around a video.
It was a signal.
There was already a hunger for language that could hold the complexity, creativity, and futurity of Black rural life.
BLACK RURAL FUTURISM™ gave that hunger a name.
WHAT BLACK RURAL FUTURISM™ HOLDS
BLACK RURAL FUTURISM™ lives at the intersection of memory, imagination, technology, land, and cultural life.
It asks not only what Black rural communities have survived, preserved, and created—but what forms of beauty, knowledge, infrastructure, and possibility might grow from that inheritance next.
-
Black rural history, family stories, ancestral knowledge, archives, land, and cultural inheritance.
-
Speculative storytelling, future-making, worldbuilding, play, and the freedom to imagine Black rural life beyond survival.
-
Broadband, tools, infrastructure, agriculture, artificial intelligence, and technologies shaped around rural realities rather than imposed upon them.
-
Foodways, ecological knowledge, farming, home, beauty, pleasure, kinship, and everyday rural practices.
-
The art, systems, games, stories, spaces, rituals, and public projects that carry Black rural intelligence forward.

WHY I’M BUILDING THIS
I grew up homeschooled on my family’s land in rural North Alabama in a world shaped by memory, resourcefulness, faith, creativity, and the everyday intelligence of Black rural life.
BLACK RURAL FUTURISM™ grows from that inheritance, but it is not an exercise in nostalgia.
It is my way of asking what Black rural knowledge can build, repair, imagine, and illuminate now—and what futures become possible when rural communities are treated as thinkers, inventors, and worldmakers.
